There is something elegant & empowering about simply not wasting what you already own. Like anything, it can go too far. However, I’ve always underestimated how much a constraint can force creativity. It’s like the brain is lazy and needs an enforceable boundary to actually do a little brainwork. Obviously, there’s no need to romanticize times when those boundaries were real (like a World War), but the habit, however artificial, is still worthwhile.
