The annual summer walk today with Glorious Grasslands where we visit a site where we did winter habitat management to see how it looks in full bloom. This year was a beautiful site near Cleeve Hill that we’ve done many times and most recently earlier this year. On first view of the grassland, we knew we’d be in for a treat. Loads of striking Viper’s Blugloss dotted up the steep banks. Everywhere we looked was packed with plants. Just one small bank contained pretty much all the indicator species you could imagine. We stopped for coffee and cake break at the top before making our way over to the far field where Chris and I did a lot of brush cutting in deep dips were covered in bramble. It was very pleasing to see grass now instead and only a small bit of bramble grown back. There was also quite a lot of tall St John’s Wort which apparently thrives on ground that has been disturbed.
