I recently picked up a PocketBook ereader. I’ve been a fan of ereaders since the early days of the Nook, back when it still had the small touchscreen for device management. I’ve been thru several Nook iterations as well as a few Kindle models since. After Amazon’s recent actions to further lock down their hardware I decided to look for something that wasn’t tied so tightly to a major bookseller’s store. Even tho Kobo readers are often recommended as an alternative to Kindle’s offerings, I was looking for a company who was focused on the hardware as the primary product rather than as a window to their bookstore. PocketBook’s name kept popping up during my research and their Verse Pro reader was available in blue so I decided to give them a shot. I was coming directly from a 10th gen Kindle Paperwhite which is a fine device with good hardware that was only handicapped by it’s attachment to Amazon.
