I often write about the flowers that self seed all over the garden, but slightly less often about the wondrous seed heads that cause all of this. I had time this morning to do a little tidying in the garden and was blown away by some of the seeds, all making plans to fling themselves around for next spring’s flowers. This is the beautiful seed head of the equally beautiful snakeshead frittilaries: And these are the exquisite seeds of the tiny violas which appeared this spring all over my veg beds Honesty appears all along the back hedge. Its seed heads have not turned to their papery beauty yet but you can see them developing I love the circularity of these seeds and flowers, requiring very little intervention from me, apart from removing those that get seriously out of control. Another plant with a very impressive seed head is the magnificent teasel, here covered with winter frost This year’s crop is still very green but covered in spikes.
