It’s football time again, and to be honest it’s not something that really pulls my interest. So just time for a quick cash in on the publicity, then. Sega Worldwide Soccer ’98 was part of the Victory Goal series, a great if simplistic up the pitch, mile high viewpoint, and a sequel imaginatively enough to Sega Worldwide Soccer 97. 97’s edition had no meaningful player licensing, and a series of international teams to play against in the “Worldwide” Cup. I never got that one, confident that the announced sequel with added domestic teams (still unlicensed) would be the better option. And from the early screenshots, it seemed to be. However, the wheels seemed to come off rather quickly. To explain why, take a look at this from the original manual pressing of Worldwide Soccer ’98.
