After a lot of hemming and hawing, Emily and I recently started watching Widow’s Bay. It’s marketed as “comedy horror,” and while we both love comedy we’re huuuuuge chickens when it comes to horror 🫣 Long story short: I love it. It’s clever, and ominous, and kooky; it’s genuinely scary in parts. I can’t get over how they made a show that blends so many different elements and genres together without making a huge mess. Which brings me to Chuck Jordan. Among many other things, Chuck is a terrific writer. His blog is one of my favorites to catch up on. Movies and video games feature prominently, and Chuck brings a critical analysis that I really love and learn a lot from, but since neither is a big part of my life I generally don’t have a personal connection to bring to my reading. So once we got a good head start on Widow’s Bay, I was excited to dive into all of Chuck’s recap-reviews I had been careful to avoid. And boy howdy, what a treat.
