Margaret and I spent Easter weekend in Chicago, and while there we visited the Art Institute. Holy cow was it crowded and loud. I didn’t enjoy the visit. We came across a staircase somewhere in that labyrinthine building whose delicious curve made us stop and take it in. I brought only my Pentax IQZoom 170SL along on the trip, loaded with Fujifilm Superia X-tra 400. This subject, in this light, would have been better photographed with a more capable camera. Not that the 170SL isn’t capable, but it’s a superzoom point-and-shoot with some natural compromises. It didn’t navigate this scene as well as my Nikon F3 would have. But you shoot the subject with the camera you have on you and remain grateful that you got to shoot it at all. Get more of my photography in your inbox or reader! Click here to subscribe.
