Blog Post 95/100. Five left before I take a break of indefinite length. Eighteen months ago I quit using Facebook and Instagram1. I outlined my reasons at the time. The main one being that Facebook took the 2024 election as permission to remove its DEI programs and their changes on how they would do fact checking – or rather how they wouldn’t. While I don’t miss it very much and have no intention of starting up again on Facebook I would put it on par with quitting drinking. It has the same social ubiquity of drinking culture that means I ran up against quitting Meta about as often as I did drinking. And they both having a mind numbing effect that is sometimes nice at the end of a long day. One big difference between the two is that I never expected anyone else to quit drinking with me, but at the time I could see Facebook going the way of Twitter where it would soon be just be bots and trolls with no redeeming value, but people didn’t leave when I left.
