Review by Sandre the Giant Released: 21st March 2026 Finland’s Nachtgnawer are made up of members from many of their Purity Through Fire labelmates, including Coraxul and Licht Des Urteils, and their grim black metal sound has a lot of familiar notes along with it. But their new EP ‘Medieval Devourer’ has more to show than just straight forward aggression and savagery; no this has an approach to the sound that I think will intrigue many a listener. ‘Medieval Devourer’ is out now. Unbearably raw and aggressive, opening track ‘Medieval Devourer’ hits you with the croaky shriek before blasting you with relentless tremolo riffs and a soupy, murky atmosphere that smothers everything in an ancient darkness. It’s what I really enjoyed about the band’s ‘Unholy Vampyric Supremacy’ release, pure atmosphere and ferocity. There’s some ghostly dungeon synth work on ‘Process of Possession’ that really creeps up the atmospheric moments before ‘Stench of the Ancient Towers’ comes tearing back through…
