It is incredibly hard to argue which one has been more influential however, and as if to help me still not be able to make said argument, please welcome to the Anniversary Series Sodom’s magnificent ‘Obsessed by Cruelty’, an album that stands tall amongst its 1986 peers with ease. A solidly top three album in terms of influence on the European continent’s extreme thrash and death metal scenes, it established that ‘In the Sign of Evil’ was no fluke debut and that Sodom were to become one of thrash’s most iconic bands. My first experience of it was actually a double release edition with their debut EP in 2013, although I’m sure I’d heard it beforehand somewhere.
