On 8th June, the Labour government once again misused gov.uk to post another political article. This time pressuring big-tech firm (Google and Apple) to scan all phones owned by children or anyone who hasn’t given big-tech their real life ID for “nude images”. Even ignoring their example of FaceTime having a less than 100% accurate nudity detector (which won’t be running at the frame rate of the video call but more like once a second or less, as AI is resource-heavy. That solution is seen as not good enough anyway; the government wants full real-time scanning of the frame buffer). The government is effectively saying to children that legal content is suddenly not allowed when viewed on a phone screen.
