The Typing Was the Safety Harness by Csaba Okrona: The slowness of writing code was doing a kind of work we never named. It forced you to think carefully about each line, and when the slowness left, the thinking left with it. This is also true to various design practices, we are loosing benefits that we got due to how the design process was working. For example: Agents are great at finding patterns in a large repository of user interviews. If the researcher outsources this work, their tacit knowledge doesn’t get built. It’s much harder to jump in to a conversation with the team on a new user need or recognizing assumptions. The team’s product intuition gets shallow. With new design tools creating full prototypes in a few minutes, the designers don’t build an intimate knowledge of the solution space. Finding new interactions and spotting holistic problems becomes much harder. These will cause long term degradation, as experience gets shallow and less effective. Less mature teams will…
