Kira and I have been lucky enough to move around a lot and explore some great cities (Tokyo, Los Angeles, and now Boston), but Saint Paul, MN will probably always feel like home. It is where our kids grew up and where we have spent the majority of our adult lives. Watching the news last winter as the Twin Cities were invaded by federal officers and the resulting deaths of Renée Good and Alex Pretti was heart wrenching. People in familiar neighborhoods were scared to leave their houses (to go to work or even to get food or medical care) and my social media feed was filled with people going out to look out for neighbors – usually with a whistle and and following behind ICE vehicles putting themselves at risk. The story has fallen out of the national news and it is my understanding that things are better, but ICE is still there and still arresting people with the same lack of regard for due process.
