Last fall, I hit my breaking point and went low-contact with my mom. I used to feel as if I were walking on eggshells during each conversation with her, and I would get daily Apple Watch notifications about my heart beating fast due to anxiety, even when I wasn't actively interacting with her. Since going low-contact, I rarely get those high heart rate notifications. I don't tremble and feel sick when her name pops up on my phone, or worry about needing to appease her by picking up her calls or responding to her texts right away and saying the right thing. I feel a bit guilty sometimes thinking about how much easier and less stressed my life is now that we hardly interact. I just got tired of maintaining such an emotionally exhausting relationship. I'm better off now, though, and I'm a lot happier overall.
