This past weekend, I had the great pleasure of watching the taiko troupe Drum Tao with my family. They were amazing—absurdly high standard of performance, athleticism, coordination, production values, and just super fun energy. I had such a great time. Sitting next to me was a girl who couldn’t have been much older that thirteen or so. She definitely read tween to me. On her other side was her father. I think she was having a good time too, because she was bopping along to the rhythms, as one absolutely should. (I felt it was a shame we were all seated, although I also feel that I am way too old by now to do a standing concert. Still, it seemed to me that a performance like this was meant to be enjoyed standing up and dancing.) She also took her phone out multiple times to record the performance.
