I recently purchased1 a game on my Windows 11 PC via the Xbox app. And, after playing the game a few times, I wanted to create a shortcut to it on my desktop. I thought the easiest place to do this would be in the Start menu. I opened the Start menu and started typing the name of the game to bring it up quickly via a search. When it appeared in the results, I looked for a way to create a shortcut to the game on the desktop. To my annoyance, there was no obvious way to do it: I thought that I might be able to drag the relevant item from the search results to my desktop. But no, it doesn’t let you do that either. As it turns out, to create a shortcut for such an app or game directly from the Start menu, you need to specifically drag it from either the ‘Pinned’ list or the ‘All’ list in the main view of the menu.
