The skullcap (Scutellaria) is blooming down along the edge of our drive this year, closer than it’s ever been before. Maybe Helene carried it down the mountain. Or maybe the mountain knows what I need. I’ve used skullcap tincture for years for sleepless nights, and seeing these little purple blooms spread so generously feels like a gift. I picked a bouquet with skullcap and the last of the yellow rocket — once spring greens, now mostly gone to seed and feeding the hillsides forward. The mountains have their own way of tending to us, if we’re paying attention. Every season, I try to notice.
