Do I think humans will ever colonize Mars? Probably. Especially since we seem bound and determined to destroy the planet we currently live on. Not to mention, humans have a long history of claiming things that weren’t theirs in the first place. Continents. Islands. Resources. Parking spaces. Colonizing Mars feels less like a bold new chapter and more like the next logical step. What I find interesting isn’t whether we’ll get there. It’s what happens after we do. People talk about Mars as if it’s a fresh start for humanity. A chance to leave behind our mistakes and build a better civilization from scratch. That’s a lovely thought. Unfortunately, humans will be involved. The first settlers will arrive after years of planning, billions of dollars in investment, and one of the most extraordinary engineering achievements in history.
