On Digital, Paper, Voice Journaling, and the Modern Commonplace Book A few weeks ago, someone on Reddit asked this question (paraphrased): "Does anyone use Day One alongside a physical journal? I like both, but I don't want random journal entries scattered everywhere." Of course I had to share my experience and I realised that my answer wasn't really about Day One or journaling apps or notebooks. It was about creating a single place where the story of my life lives. The word of the day (well, maybe not on that same day) happened to be cartulary. According to Wikipedia, a cartulary was a medieval collection of important documents, charters, letters, and records that institutions preserved for future generations. A historical record. And that's exactly what my (digital) journal has become. I use Day One as my single source of truth because everything eventually finds its way there.
