As I told you, I recently switched to mainly using NetBird instead of Tailscale. NetBird released their “Bring your own proxy” functionality on the cloud-hosted version today. That gave me the perfect reason to finally try a VPS at netcup. I ordered the smallest one with just one core and one gigabyte of memory, but all it has to do is the reverse proxy work. My impression about netcup is better than I expected. I am used to Hetzner Cloud, and while netcup’s interface isn’t as fancy, they actually have some options I miss at Hetzner: downloading server snapshots and uploading custom ISOs that can then be installed on the server. You notice that netcup is using QEMU/KVM in the background, as they also allow things like changing the network driver, etc. Kudos that they actually expose this feature to the customer. But also the BYOP functionality of NetBird is great. With that I can finally have HTTPS-protected but “NetBird-only” services. To access them, I have to be connected to the…
