This Car Can … 12 June, 2026 In March, 2026 the non-profit advocacy group Rewiring Aotearoa ran a campaign celebrating the real stories of everyday New Zealanders who have already made the switch to electric vehicles in the hope it inspires more people to follow suit. I submitted (in a slightly different form) the story below. When I hear people drone on about what electric vehicles can’t do, I experience a mix of bemusement and frustration. More often than not, those folks know little or nothing about EVs and probably haven’t driven or taken a ride in one. Ever. On top of that, when it isn’t false the information that they use to try to bolster their specious arguments against EVs is usually either incomplete or outdated. That’s more than a little annoying. But I don’t like to focus on negatives. My own experiences as an EV enthusiast and happy EV owner have been positive and have reinforced my conception of what electric vehicles can do.
