How I converted my Instagram export to Markdown

2026 Preface Back in 2022 I imported my photos from Instagram to my site. I started with Instagram’s official export file and converted to markdown files which is the format my site uses. While I worked on the import I started documenting my process. But my draft post lagged and sat unpublished for years. Tonight at Homebrew Website Club, Joe referenced working on importing Instagram posts to his site. There are a few projects similar projects (e.g. memento-mori and Instaloader) but they have specific goals and Instagram changes often breaks those. I don’t think my script is any better, but I hope that sharing it can give others some ideas or call out potential issues in case they are attempting to write their own import process.
