I don’t know anything about personal finance, but figured I’d share this silly little thing I started doing a year ago: putting a dollar into my savings account every day. A year ago I opened a new savings account that happened to have a good interest rate, or whatever you call it. I don’t really know the proper terminology, which probably isn’t a good sign for my understanding of personal finance. In the past, my old accounts would only accrue like a penny per month or something meaningless, so I got a recommendation from someone for an account that had a better deal and started a new savings pile in there. Then I set up a monthly transfer of 30 bucks from my checking account into there. In other words, 360 bucks per year. Or, as a rough estimate, “a dollar per day.” Putting 360 bucks into your savings account each year is not significant and I don’t want to imply that it’s going to change my life or make any sort of meaningful improvement.
