Flow is a funny thing, isn’t it? One day it’s there, and nowhere to be seen the next. One minute it’s like Niagara Falls, and the next it’s like trying to squeeze water out of the sand of the Sahara. I can't say there’s much of a flow going on as I’m writing this. On a scale from 1-10, it’s hardly a six. Not terrible, but far from how good it can feel at times. How often are you floating around at an 8 or 9, or maybe even a 10? Once a week? A couple of times a month? It varies from person to person, of course. But I think most of us will agree that it’s more common that we don’t have a great flow than the other way around. So, should we just sit and wait until inspiration grabs our hand and leads the way? Sure, if we like waiting. Absolutely, if we like being dependent on a guide with clueless working hours. Or we can stop believing that flow is a prerequisite for creativity. It’s not.
