When I reviewed “Village Fool” earlier this year, I had planned on saving this novella for a reading mojo emergency, but you know what? It’s June, and June is Pride–fuck the fucking bigots. Beware: asshole parents; homophobia; PTSD from bullying; child with apraxia; bisexual protagonist. Oh, and Canadian slang (remember kids: don’t whine about it, search) “Faux Ho Ho” by ‘Nathan Burgoine Because I have been uncharacteristically chaotic in my reading of the Little Village series of stories, this is actually the third published novella, yet the sixth story I’ve read. Like all of this author’s stories, I have laughed and cried while reading it. This is a familiar and well-loved universe for me, one I often wish I could live in. The story is narrated, in third person, past tense, exclusively from Silas’ point of view, but as always, the writing brings all the other characters fully to life–the good, the great, and the fucking assholes.
