Chili Peppers of the World — a hand-illustrated guide featuring 176 peppers from across the globe. For the past several years I've been working on what may be Notes from the Road's biggest illustration project yet: a visual guide to the chili peppers of the world. I wanted a reference that combined natural history, food history, geography, cultivation, and illustration in a single place. I couldn't find one, so I decided to build it myself. The result is an illustrated guide covering 176 chili peppers from around the world, from wild chiltepins to modern superhot cultivars. Every pepper was drawn by hand using pen, Copic markers, and colored pencil, and each entry explores that pepper's origins, history, and cultural significance. The guide follows the remarkable journey of Capsicum from its origins in the Americas to its spread across Africa, Europe, and Asia, where local farmers transformed it into thousands of distinct forms.
