Latest update on my new book & a tribute to my writing shed which has finally bitten the dust. The shed has gone – long live the Red and Green Shed. That nearly became the name of this blog when I re-named it in 2013 from Islingtongue>Leytonstongue. And looking back it would’ve been a nice legacy for the shed that I bought with my first chunk of book advance for This Other London in 2012. And it served me well for a number of years. I turned it into a little retreat at the bottom of the garden, a writer’s cabin. The collaged ceiling of odd pages of broken A-Zs that I made in the early months gave me particular pleasure. I finished writing both This Other London and Welcome to New London in that shed and had a great night drinking and listening to music to celebrate the completion of the latter, just a few years ago. I think it’s decline began after lockdown, precipitated by a successful incursion of a neighbour’s Russian vine that picked away at the roof until my beloved collage was…
