These two tiny paintings have surprised me. They measure just 4 x 6 inches, but they carry the same layered process as much larger works—transparent washes built slowly over time until color, light, and atmosphere begin to emerge. The handcrafted Khadi paper contributes its own quiet magic. It feels wonderful in the hand, and the deckled edges make each piece feel like a small object to be treasured. What I didn’t expect was how powerful they would become when given room to breathe. Set against a generous mat or dark backing board, their jewel-like colors seem to deepen and glow. The rose-and-gold piece is titled Heart’s Ease. The green-and-gold piece is Good Ground. I hadn’t planned for them to be companions, but the titles arrived naturally, and the paintings seemed to belong together from the start.
