Hm, after having read a couple of books on the topic, I wouldn't really recommend this one broadly. The first part of the book is mostly an explanation of what abuse and CPTSD entail, along with a lot of research. I thought this section was mostly good and I learned some new things. The author does make some comparisons that I'm not too happy about. He tries to make the point that CPTSD is CPTSD, no matter what initially caused it (as in, we all suffer the same). But I don't think anybody wins from comparing familial abuse, slavery and genocidal structures. The second part gives a step-by-step guide for how to estrange. The book does tell us that there are multiple ways to become estranged, but only really zooms in on this one path that I don't fully agree with. It involved confronting your family member(s), catering to their preferred ways of communication, setting rules and correcting them whenever they don't follow those rules.
