I would like to make a quick case for no templates. Almost always, templates are a good idea for quick work. But if you’re trying to keep it really simple, and you combine that with giving yourself only an hour, I think you may get something closer to what you’re looking for by starting from scratch. Now, this may only work if you’re a believer in scheduled inspiration, which I am. And if you’re not a believer in this, you’re wrong. If you schedule writing time, writing will happen. The number one rule is that you’re allowed to write or do nothing. You can do either freely, but you can only do those two things. So if you ditch your template for the day, give yourself an hour, and you’ve got some practice scheduling inspiration, you may come up with something much simpler than you usually would. And I would bet, maybe four out of five times, that simpler thing will be the better thing.
