There comes a time when you start getting a little bored of small “smart plug” switches because some of them have persistent contact welding issues over time or perhaps they tend to fail unpredictably. So you look for something more “heavy duty”. While browsing AliExpress, I came across a number of smart “circuit breakers” which were Tuya compatible, connecting over Wi-Fi, coming from a variety of vendors. Many of them could be purchased for around US$15 with power metering, voltage monitoring, adjustable current threshold (up to 63A), timer capability and temperature monitoring. More advanced units seem to be advertising leakage current monitoring too, which is something you might want an RCD for to prevent electric shocks. The price is definitely enticing as it is cheaper than a regular circuit breaker … but I had a feeling that it isn’t really a circuit breaker ….
