Dear reader, I’m off on a 13-day, five country tour of the Balkans, taking in Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Serbia. It’s a guided tour with a company I’ve travelled with before called Just You. Lee doesn’t like flying so this is how I get my overseas adventuring fixes. I’ll be collecting notes, travel tips, anecdotes and photos along the way to share with you in this new Tales from the Balkans series. I know this is technically Day 1 but I’m technically starting with Day 0 to set the scene. Rest assured we’ll be settled in Bucharest with some new friends and a beer in hand by the end of this post. Packing I am not a fan of hot weather so try to avoid scorchio times of year. I was pleased to see temperatures ranging from 11C-24C forecast for the cities I’d be visiting. That did make packing a little tricky. Would I need my big coat? I decided I’d travel in it (and a jumper) and pack a lighter jacket. I didn’t pack any dresses to avoid any ‘changing for dinner’…
