Creativity begins with imitation. We transcribe a passage from our favorite writer. We recreate a scene from our favorite painter. We first adopt, then adapt. I’ve hand-copied James Altucher’s passages and dissected Dan Brown’s bestsellers. But don’t only steal the work, steal the process behind it too. Watch how your favorite writer launches a book. Or how a painter curates a gallery. After studying Craig Mod’s membership, I wrote 10-idea lists for my own using my current setup. As a creative constraint, replicate their production with what you have, even with $0. Steal their art and production.
