Jake Casella Brookins It’s been a distressingly busy month for me, but it’s mostly with good things. I’m over the moon about the success of ARB’s first fundraiser—backers, we’ll be getting rewards headed your way soon—and we’re sorting out the budget and processes to kick off paying writers next month. Money, time, and sustainability are in my head a lot lately, and you’ll see those issues pop up in a few of the pieces below. A project like ARB just takes a lot of time, on the editorial side, and for me at least I really need to differentiate “brain time” from “brainless time”; there’s only so much of the former I have per day for thoughtful writing and editing. Figuring out how to balance, structure, grow, and compensate the editorial team is something we’ve been thinking about a lot.
