Okay, so, I don't imagine too many of you care about or have been following the destruction of CBS News (the brand and the idea) by the new regime, but I can't look away from it for reasons including that it is just a perfect metaphor for what is going on in America right now. In short: some of the worst people ever who don't know or care how anything works were handed the keys to American culture and posture —— by which I also mean its past, present, future, culture, conventions, and institutions —— and they responded by destroying all of it so that they can remake it in their image, and that image is really small, and ugly, and petty, and stupid, and unqualified, and sociopathic, and solipsistic, and really fucking lame —— but you really can't teach people to have taste, or self-respect, and so here we are.
