It's sad but among one of my first stops when I touchdown in Peru is to visit the cemetery. My grandma passed away in February 2024, and my grandpa in September 2024 -- only a couple months before my wedding. The following year, my uncle passed away unexpectedly in January 2025. In our culture, it's always said that deaths come in threes, and I can't believe we've become witnesses to that in our own family1. We weren't prepared when my grandma passed so she was actually burried in my grandfather's family mausoleum. They never liked my grandma. It forced our famly to quickly gather the funds and begin construction to build our own. After a year, we were able to move my grandma to her new home alongside my grandpa and uncle who were already waiting for her. Visiting Peru is not the same. I used to love visiting my grandma at her house. She would always be chilling on the couch watching Caso Cerrado. Now, it sucks that I have to visit her at the cemetery.
