Every spring, the jack-in-the-pulpits return to the woods behind our house, and every spring they surprise me all over again. Some are pale green with white stripes, others are dusky purple and green, tucked quietly among the leaf litter like small secrets. Today I happened to find this photo, taken just a few weeks ago, nearly hidden in a pile of other pictures. Which seems perfectly fitting for a jack-in-the-pulpit. jack-in-the-pulpit They are such strange, beautiful little plants—part wildflower, part sculpture. You don’t notice them from a distance. You have to slow down and look carefully, which feels fitting somehow for these mountains and the quiet treasures they keep. The post Small Treasure appeared first on Appalachian Ground.
