(I Came, I Grained, I Ate) My various dabbling with meatless cooking has left me with several half-filled bags of grains in my cupboard. I have some bulger, some barley, some quinoa, and some farro. I’ve made some meals that I liked well enough using these grains, but when I pulled out the bag of farro and tried to think of one I just couldn’t get excited about any of them. I decided to make something with ground turkey instead and when I googled for ideas I came across a ground turkey and grain bowl with roasted veggies. Now the farro didn’t sound so bad. What I made wasn’t that recipe, but I’ll say it was inspired by that recipe. Here is what I ended up putting in our farro bowls. About half a pound of ground turkey mixed with two chopped strips of bacon, browned with some dried shallots and Italian seasoning. I let it almost burn and then deglazed the pan with some red wine. Some rehydrated dried Morel mushrooms fried in butter. they were sort of lost in bowl, but probably worth it…
