Protagonist straddles mirrored worlds of authoritarianism and anarchy.By Ursula K. Le GuinRating: 3 / 5.I like what this book explored, but as stories go it was not my favorite. It seemed more meandering than compelling, like the story existed only as a rough shelter for very interesting talking points. I would have rather read a book-length essay that dispensed with the worlds and characters. Even still, I ended up with a lot of highlights because yet again Le Guin wiggled into murky territory and crisply described its boundaries. The characterizations of people-centric vs. authoritarian+commercial structures and principles are just as relevant now as they were in 1974. It is useless work that darkens the heart. To deny is not to achieve. All the little things made sense; only the whole thing did not. All the people in all the shops were either buyers or sellers. They had no relation to the things but that of possession. All you have is what you are, and what you give.
