They have their grad student Carolwrite up the result. Alice and Bob intentionally leave their nameoff of the paper since they want Carol to get a career boost.2) Alice has a conjecture and does some work on it. Famous MathematiciansBob and Carol solve it and offer Alice a co-authorship. Alice declines thinking thathaving it known that Bob and Carol cared about her work is more important(and Alice thinks, rightly or wrongly, that it's more impressive if she is not a co-author)3) Alice has a good idea and tells it to Bob and Carol.
