The month 1st I stepped on a nail in a piece of trim I left laying around on the deck like an idiot. It’s an old “dirty” nail and I last had my tetanus booster almost exactly 5 years ago. You should get a booster every 10 years usually, unless you step on a rusty nail after 5 years. So A—who was very proud to be the one helping me with a shot—and I drove to Safeway for a new one. And for as weird as US health care is, it was free and I never even showed my ID? They basically confirmed I had a name and a birth date. And I learned the mortality rate for people who actually do get tetanus, even with treatment, is 10%?! Right.
