It has been 100 days since my daughter and son-in-law’s wedding, when I had a glass of champagne that ended my year of no alcohol before the year was up. So I set a new goal of no drinking for the next 100 days. But then I thought what if I did nine more 100 day habits and overlapped them by ten days each. Why? I don’t really know, but it seemed like it could be interesting. I’ve since discovered that a hundred day challenge like this (especially the writing part) is proven to help with creativity. …the heart of the 100-day structure. We don’t have to decide every morning whether today is a good day to be creative, a good day to write. The decision has already been made. We just show up. And in showing up—in the absence of that daily negotiation with ourselves—something loosens. The inner critic gets bored and wanders off, the perfectionist stops patrolling, and what’s left is something closer to play.
