I love to write while I am walking around in the world. I keep a digital notebook in which I write down what I observe: sights, sounds, scents; emotions, hopes, dreams. The smile I see as two friends embrace each other in a hug as the person who has been waiting patiently at a table sees their friend walk in makes me joyful both in the moment, and as I reflect on the words in my notebook. Every word is part of a story of the day – a story, too, of life.I take notes like this:Enjoying an iced latte in the park while the sun shines — hearing someone laugh from the heart; the rare kind. The sun illuminated the white pages of the book a lady reads in the park; an iced latte sits next to her. We are firmly in the season for iced coffee. Bagpipes resonate through the park.I try to capture whatever details I can. I had to write down that the person was laughing from the heart because they were: their laugh was contagious and in bursts, and must have stood out in front of the faint bagpipes…
