How strange is a strange smelly mushroom that has a milky liquid drooping on it? How strange is a sweet flower with thorny stem that makes my eyes tear as I come near it? How strange is a flower enveloped in another one with a wood-like bark growing around it? Welcome to Strange Horticulture, where with the help of your trusty encyclopedia, you, the horticulturist, will shape order out of planty chaos. It’s a bit difficult to put this game in a neat genre box: puzzle, perhaps? But also a visual novel in a way? I’m not too familiar with these kinds of games, the one that came closest to it that I played is perhaps Lil’ Guardsman. You own a shop called Strange Horticulture in a quiet (for now…) town called Undermere. The game is comprised out of 16 days. Each day, visitors will attend the shop, looking for ailments in the form of a plant—and much later, sometimes a distilled potion. They’ll provide clues and it’s up to you to match the right plant. Did I just miss-label this plant?…
