I find that scents can have particularly surprising effects. For instance, yesterday, I was still feeling off after having seen an animal killed in front of me. But just out of curiosity, my wife and I ended up walking into a Penhaligon's, a niche perfumery that also serves the British royal family. The store manager patiently took us on a tour of the various scents on offer. He even broke down the make-up of the perfumes and recounted the stories behind them. Both my wife and I ended up trying a whole range that we might never have on our own. For the time that we were at the store, we were absorbed in the whole experience of it all. It was a fun journey that took my mind off whatever I had been brooding over. I hadn't realised this till we walked out of the store. I guess now I know — I should probably add scent to my list of things that make me happy.
