My dad built the family home on 10 acres. It took him a couple of years to build the house; he did the mostly alone. I’ve always admired him for this. Nine of the 10 acres were somewhat wooded and to this day are bisected by train tracks, the St. Lawrence Subdivision of CSX Railroad. I grew up near trains. I’ve always been fascinated by the engineering of the railroad in general and I find them to be a very important part of our national economy. Flagstaff has a busy set of train tracks passing just to the south of downtown and old US 66. Trains pass through frequently. The tracks bisect the commercial area. Many folks finding themselves waiting for trains to pass. I always find it exciting. From a couple of years ago. One of the things I enjoy about storm chasing out on the Great Plains is visiting the towns situated along train lines. I just find train tracks to be solidly part of “Americana”. I know trains can’t be stopped on a dime and that they are a marvel of human engineering.…
