This weekend, I’m back with some more optical media testing, as I’ve amassed a large collection just waiting for me to discover how well they work, or if they still work at all. This time, we’re looking at four different types – the Imation i-Pro 8x DVD-R, Mitsubishi 8x DVD-R, Verbatim 16x DVD+R and a generic bundle-in 16x DVD-R that came with an external slimline USB DVD writer. What’s the common thread that links them all together? Read along to find out. Imation i-Pro 8x DVD-R Imation would be a familiar brand to most, borne out of 3M, although they were more famous for their magnetic media. Their optical media, at least in our region, tended to be rebadged CMC discs almost always, with occasional mixes of Ritek and Moser Baer for very specific types or if stock was running low. As a result, while the discs worked, they weren’t premium by any stretch. But the Imation brand does go one tier lower (at least, in my opinion) in Hong Kong, Japan and that area of Asia.
