(Reposting from 2025) Instant noodles are one of my comfort foods back in the Philippines. It’s our go-to food for a quick midnight snack, it’s what we eat during typhoon season, and it’s what we eat when we don’t feel like making anything complicated. I’ve learned that it’s not the case in Argentina. A pack of noodles in the Philippines costs 15₱ (0.27$), growing up, it was half the price, and one pack can be shared between 3 people. Just add more water, and you may also add rice. We sometimes add malunggay leaves (moringa) and egg if we’re feeling fancy (or bored with the same flavour). In Argentina, I’ve held off buying because they’re expensive. One pack is around 80₱ (1.6$). I clutched my pearls when I saw it for the first time. Instant noodles seem like a luxury in this part of the world. I know that sounded dramatic for a 2-dollar pack, but with our noodles as comparison, I will be dramatic.
