This post was inspired by Juhis’ IndieWeb Carnival theme for May, A love letter. This is a love letter to creative spaces, community centres, libraries and anywhere that is welcoming to the big table full of slightly chaotic artists who might make a mess of their carpet from time to time. When I was a teenager one of my favourite places was the school library. I would spend every spare hour I had amongst the books. Not always reading quietly, sometimes socialising and sharing, to the criticism of the school librarian. That library was where I met my closest school friends (we were in different year groups, so had no lessons together), where we read our lines for the school play and where we joined the newly formed school newspaper a few years later. It was a multi-purpose creative space, intentionally or not. Before and after school the big table in the middle would be a mixture of unfinished homework, half-read books, art projects and plenty else. The school had three or four art…
