Given the current price of computer hardware, there’s a good chance I’ll be sticking with the generation of equipment I have for a while. While I always appreciate more performance, I also care about power efficiency now that I’m looking to be more self-sufficient running as much of my life from my own standalone PV systems as I can. To that end, I received a pleasant surprise when Australian Computer Trader’s representative posted on OzBargain advertising a B-grade (but still good) Acer TravelMate Spin P4 for just AU$220 delivered. Sure, it’s an 11th-generation Intel CPU and an i5 at that, but my previous Dell Latitude 5420 refurb with the same CPU has been doing very well, now 10 months old in my posession as a daily beater and having travelled overseas once too. To get another similar laptop of the same generation would be a nice backup, as the Latitude 5420 is not famous for having stellar build quality, but neither is the P4. Anyway, what does $220 get you? Supposedly a B-grade…
